The challenge
A TAFE engaged CAQA to lead independent validation of assessment tools and judgements across 25 qualifications. The provider wanted assurance that its assessment practices met the Standards for RTOs and could withstand regulatory review.
What we did
CAQA developed the validation timetable, led the validation team, determined appropriate sample sizes and reviewed assessment tools, evidence and assessor decisions against training product requirements. The project examined whether assessment tools were consistent with unit requirements and whether assessment judgements were supported by valid, sufficient, authentic and current evidence. The review also supported moderation by checking whether assessors were making consistent decisions across the qualifications. Where inconsistency or weakness was identified, CAQA recommended improvements to assessor guidance, benchmark answers, instructions, evidence requirements and validation follow-up.
