The challenge
An RTO engaged CAQA to strengthen its Recognition of Prior Learning pathway across several qualifications. The provider had identified that its existing RPL process was not serving eligible applicants well.
What we did
RPL should not be a shortcut or an informal conversation. It is an assessment process that must determine whether a person’s prior learning and experience meet the requirements of the training product. Under the Standards for RTOs 2025, students must be supported to seek RPL, and decisions must be evidence-based, fair, transparent, consistent and preserve training product integrity. CAQA developed a compliant RPL kit structured around the relevant training product requirements. The kit included applicant information, self-assessment tools, evidence guides, third-party evidence guidance, workplace evidence examples, assessor instructions, competency mapping and decision-recording tools.
