CAQA is a specialist consultancy that provides quality assurance services to registered training organisations (RTOs) throughout Australia. This case study focuses on how CAQA assisted one RTO in undertaking the validation of more than 1000 units of competency within a nine months period.
This RTO was facing a daunting task – the validation of 1000 plus units of competency, a process that requires sufficient time and resources in order to ensure compliance with the standards for Registered Training Organisations (SRTOs). CAQA assisted by developing efficient and effective validation planning and implementing processes. CAQA used training staff members of the training organisation, and consultants of CAQA and also recruited a number of subject matter experts and validators. The lead validator was Sukh Sandhu, and he managed a team of 72 experts.
Through this approach, CAQA successfully helped the RTO validate their 1000 plus units of competency according to RTO standards within the timeframe agreed. In addition, their guidance ensured that the changes made were both practical and effective in terms of improving quality outcomes for students.
Overall it can be seen that having access to specialist knowledge can help RTOs overcome challenging regulatory requirements, especially when large volumes of data must be transformed into compliant outcomes quickly. By using experienced professionals in matters related to regulation and compliance, organisations are able to secure expert advice which leads to improved student experiences as well as improved overall outcomes for organisations operating under VET Quality Frameworks such as those required by Australian government regulations on RTO operations.
